Mastering the basics of English starts with understanding the eight parts of speech. These categories help us identify the roles that different words play in a sentence, making it easier to construct sentences clearly and accurately.

1. Nouns

Nouns are words for people, places, things, or ideas. Examples: cat, happiness, city.

2. Pronouns

Pronouns replace nouns to avoid repetition. Examples: he, they, it.

3. Verbs

Verbs express actions, states, or occurrences. Examples: run, is, become.

4. Adjectives

Adjectives describe nouns or pronouns, providing more detail. Examples: happy, blue, tall.

5. Adverbs

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs, often telling us how, when, or where. Examples: quickly, very, yesterday.

6. Prepositions

Prepositions show relationships between a noun or pronoun and other words. Examples: in, on, before.

7. Conjunctions

Conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses. Examples: and, but, although.

8. Interjections

Interjections are expressions of emotion, often standalone. Examples: wow!, oops!, hey!.
